THE HEWLETT SCHOOL OF EAST ISLIP
Suffolk Lane, East Islip
THE PRESCHOOL AT HEWLETT
CURRICULUM
Foremost, THE PRESCHOOL AT HEWLETT provides a safe and stimulating
extended family atmosphere in which parents of young children
may find a support system for raising their young children. Faculty
and staff members recognize the individuality of each child in
an atmosphere where children are encouraged to explore, ask questions
and experiment in many learning centers. A thematic or integrated
learning approach provides the framework for a quality learning
experience.
The program is designed to allow for children's input and
change according to individual or group needs and interests.
The emphasis of the curriculum is on the development of the
total human being and assumes a holistic conception of the student's
growth and learning, pertaining to aesthetic, physical, mental,
moral and social development. Activities are designed to develop
students' interpersonal competencies (including self-help skills)
and to promote a sense of social cohesion and collective responsibility.
In addition, an introduction to French language provides
an early-language experience to prepare the young child for further
language studies.
