ATHLETICS DEPARTMENT
STUDENT HANDBOOK

It is The Hewlett School's policy that interscholastic athletics is a completely voluntary program. Participation is not required for graduation! However, because interscholastic sports are voluntary and because those participating represent the student body, it is mandatory that to qualify for competition certain high standards must be maintained in academics, school citizenship and sportsmanship.

Students must realize that participation in interscholastic athletics is a privilege. The goal of the coaching staff is to help our student athletes become better people as well as better athletes.

The Hewlett School has developed this handbook to inform students and parents about the philosophy, rules and regulations of The Hewlett School's sports program. The intent of the handbook is to avoid any misunderstanding of the rules. It is the position of The Hewlett School that parents and student athletes read the handbook and sign the contract on the last page. The contract must be signed and returned to the Athletic Director before the athlete is allowed to participate in the first practice.

Hewlett Athletes...

Hewlett School athletes are people with pride in themselves as students, athletes, and members of the community. He or she, as members of the Athletic Program, not only represent themselves and their family but also teammates, coaches, and the entire Hewlett School community. As our program continues to grow and prosper, athletes will constantly be in the eye of fellow students and the general public. Athletes will be leaders and will conduct themselves in such a manner as to be praised not only as athletes, but also, more importantly, as human beings.

Hewlett School athletes have goals for themselves as students, players, and future adults. To attain these goals, they must base their lifestyles on hard work, 100 percent effort, sacrifice, determination, desire to excel, punctuality, and persistence. Just as these ideals will bring a positive attitude to the playing field or court, they will help the athlete to reap rewards in the classroom and earn greater respect as individuals.

Hewlett School athletes will always hold their heads up high; they will be able to look directly at their fellow man and the world. They are class people in a class program.

Congratulations and welcome to the TEAM!!!

A total commitment to something as worthwhile as interscholastic athletics benefits the athlete and the team as well as The Hewlett School of East Islip.
